Food Expo, Tea Fair and Home Delights Expo Open in August in Hong Kong
Beauty & Wellness Expo set to make a debut alongside

Providing one-stop sourcing platform for trade and public visitors

17 June 2016 – Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), Food Expo, Hong Kong International Tea Fair and Home Delights Expo will open concurrently on 11 August 2016 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This year, the HKTDC will also launch the first edition of Beauty & Wellness Expo, a brand-new event embracing everything from skincare to cosmetics and fitness equipment. Meanwhile, the premier two-day conference for the Chinese medicine community, the International Conference of the Modernization of Chinese Medicine & Health Products (ICMCM), co-organised by Modernized Chinese Medicine International Association Ltd (MCMIA), will be held on 11 and 12 August 2016.
Benjamin Chau, Deputy Executive Director, HKTDC, said “HKTDC organises a bundle of public and trade fairs in August every year for mass consumers and trade buyers to source a wide variety of products. We introduced Home Delights Expo in 2014 to offer visitors additional choices along their visit to the Food Expo, and we have received well response from the public. This year, we will launch another new fair, Beauty & Wellness Expo, to further enhance the shopping experience of the public. The concurrent events also include Hong Kong International Tea Fair and ICMCM conference, which will provide a one-stop platform for industry players to create crossover business possibilities and exchange market knowledge.”
Food Expo: Serving international and local delicacies
Entering its 27th edition, the Food Expo is expected to attract more than 1,300 exhibitors from over 20 countries and regions, showcasing a wide range of international food and beverage for food lovers and trade buyers. In 2015, more than 470,000 public visitors attended the Food Expo and the concurrent Home Delights Expo, while the Food Expo’s Trade Hall attracted more than 20,000 trade buyers.
Food Expo comprises three sections including Trade Hall, Gourmet Zone and Public Hall. The Trade Hall will open for three days from 11 to 13 August. It is dedicated to professional trade buyers on the first two days to explore business opportunities and establish partnerships with the exhibitors, and will open to public visitors with ticket admission on 13 August. Exhibitors are manufacturers, wholesalers, suppliers, brokers and agencies with products for sampling and sourcing negotiation. This year, it features a specialized new Chinese Medicine Zone, in association with the ICMCM conference, to showcase related products. Besides, the Halal Food Zone and the Food and Agricultural Technology Zone introduced last year will return to showcase sector-specific products, services and technologies. Also featured in the Hall are international pavilions including Chinese mainland, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Poland, Ukraine and the USA to showcase their local food and beverages to potential trade buyers.
Gourmet Zone targets at public visitors craving for high-end delicacies. Opening from 11 to 14 August, the Zone will gather over 70 exhibitors under the themes of Asian Cuisine, Chic & More, Sweet Delight, Western Delicacy and a new theme to be launched this year, Green Palate, to feature organic and green food.
Another section targeting at public consumers is the Public Hall which will take place from 11 to 15 August. The Hall’s highlight is the Premium Food Zone, featuring an array of popular local brands including Chewy, Kee Wah Bakery, Maxim's, Nissin, On Kee Dry Seafood, Taipan Bread & Cakes, Tung Chun and Vita Green Health Products. Apart from local brands, the Public Hall will feature international pavilions including Canada, the Chinese mainland, Japan, Korea and the Philippines.
During the fair period, a wide variety of events will be organised to engage with the visitors. These include onsite cooking demonstrations by celebrity chefs, sharing by renowned food reviewers, seminars on food industry topics and many more.
Home Delights Expo: Inspiring lifestyles
The 3rd edition of the Home Delights Expo will be held from 11 to 15 August, featuring some 150 exhibitors to provide a range of quality electrical appliances and household products for the public visitors alongside their food journey.
The Expo is divided into different themed zones, including the fair attraction Avenue of Delights, which will showcase numerous premium lifestyle brands from some 30 exhibitors. In addition, there are Electrical Appliances and Household Products, bringing a wide range of products such as home appliances, healthcare electronics, home security products, bedroom items, kitchen utensils, tableware and bar accessories. Some of the noted brand names include CLP, Dyson, Goodway, Kenwood, Ladyship, OGAWA, OTO, Philips, STAUB, Towngas, WMF and ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS.
A series of cooking demonstrations, sharing sessions on healthy lifestyle tips, product demonstrations by exhibitors, product bidding and lucky draw will be available for the visitors.
Beauty & Wellness Expo: Pursuing health and beauty
Corresponding to the rising awareness of healthy lifestyle and huge demand for beauty products in the market, HKTDC will launch the inaugural Beauty & Wellness Expo from 11 to 15 August, concurrently with Food Expo and Home Delights Expo. Apart from global delicacies and diversified household products, visitors can look for beauty and wellness products to enrich their shopping experience.
Targeting at the general public, the Expo will be served as a platform for exhibitors to collect direct feedback from consumers on their products, which include cosmetics, skincare products, hair care products, spa massage products, nail polish, beauty appliances, fitness products and services.
Visitors can also participate in some onsite events such as sharing on beauty trends and health tips by blogger and industry experts, as well as makeup, nail art and hair styling demonstrations.
International Tea Fair: Brewing opportunities in tea business
Hong Kong International Tea Fair has long been a premier platform for promoting business in the tea industry. The 8th edition will run from 11 to 13 August, gathering more than 200 exhibitors from different countries and regions, including the Chinese mainland, India, Japan and Sri Lanka, which are renowned for their quality tea. In 2015, the fair attracted over 15,000 international trade buyers.
The fair will open exclusively to trade buyers on 11 and 12 August, and welcome public ticket-holders on 13 August. Exhibitors will present their related tea products, including tea, tea packaging, tea processing equipment and testing services, tea ware, tea craft and tea technology, as well as introduce their unique tea culture to visitors. Visitors can also enjoy tea-food pairing experience at the Friends of Tea zone, where bakery products, sweets, snacks and biscuits will be showcased.
To promote tea trading and culture, a series of events will be held during the fair. One of the must-not-miss events is the International Tea Competition 2016. Through blind-tasting, a panel of professional judges will review the tea entries of different categories such as Black Tea, Pu’er Tea, Aged Tea and Green tea among others.
Another event highlight is the International KamCha Competition (Hong Kong Style-Milk Tea) International Final, which will take place on the public day (13 August). Hong Kong and regional champions from Guangzhou, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Melbourne and Toronto will fight for the winning title. Other events include tea tasting sessions, international tea cupping, tea art performances, seminar and tea forum series on related topics to be delivered by industry experts.
International Conference of the Modernization of Chinese Medicine & Health Products
Co-organised by the HKTDC and the Modernized Chinese Medicine International Association Ltd (MCMIA), the Conference will take place on 11 and 12 August to keep practitioners abreast of the latest trends and developments. Heavyweight speakers from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau and the Netherlands will share views on the opportunities from “Belt & Road Initiatives” and also the latest findings on research and development, regulations and legislations, commercialization and product development of the Chinese medicine industry.
